What do Kiteboarding and the Bahamas have in common?
Kiteboarding is a new water-sport that incorporates elements of windsurfing and wakeboarding. Basically a rider uses a kite and the power of the wind to propel themselves across the water on a board similar to a wakeboard. I had been taking lessons for a while with an organization called the Kitehouse out of Key West. More... |

Chris Ross, Photographer
There are many photographers who spend time in the outdoors and few who can capture the the real feel of some of the outdoor scenes. I got a chance to meet one of those few on a Costa del Mar shoot in the Dry Tortugas. Chris Ross was the photographer on the shoot what impressed me about him was the ability to be looking in the right direction at the right time to capture just the right image. |

Urban Nature, Banana River Florida
My name is Derek Redwine. After many years of being friends with Jose Wejebe, he recently asked me if my family and I would be interested in doing a fishing show with him. After I picked myself up off the ground, we talked through some ideas. Jose made it clear he really just wanted us to do what we do.
This was very special to us because he wasn't asking us to be a fishing guide, captain, or expert on the river...he was just asking us to be a family and show him how we like to explore the outdoors and pass on our passion on to our child. |

Plane is done and Flying!
After years of hard work and testing, the plane is finally done and has been put to the test. The goal was to build a plane that could fly far, fast, and heavy. It comes from a kit plane manufacturer known as Compair and you build it together with a company known as Composite Technologies. We built it from the ground up with exploration, filming and fishing in mind. |

Building
A New Airplane III
Getting closer now, wings are done and in a separate area to be attached later. Landing gear is on and controls in. Now the plane gets painted before it goes to the avionics department where the instruments for navigation and engine functions get put into the panel.

Building
A New Airplane II
Things are moving right along with the building of the
airplane. Sounds scary at first, the though of actually
building a plane, but the guys at Aerocomp and Composite
Technologies have really made it seem... well.... maybe
not easy, but possible.

Bahia
La Tortuga, Mexico
Recently I went on a exploratory adventure to a remote
fishing lodge called Bahia la Tortuga located in the fishing
village of Puerto Vicente, which is on the Pacific side
of Mexico. John Lorenz and his lovely wife, Angie, were
the best hosts anyone could have, serving some of the
best Mexican dishes and really making us feel at home
in their place.

Deep
jigging
Deep jigging has always been a very productive way of
catching fish all up and down the water column. Traditionally
most of that has been done with a large heavy bucktail
or nylon jig. The jig is dropped to the bottom and then
retrieve to the surface.

Building
A New Airplane I
Just starting the process of building a new airplane with
the folks at Aerocomp Inc. The plane is built with composite
materials much like a boat and you put it together with
the help the builder assist program.
This is not just your ordinary plane as it has high speed
cruise and great low speed capabilities, in short , you
can get there fast and land/takeoff in the tiniest runways.
Not only that but you can add floats to convert it into
a seaplane. Pretty spectacular.
The whole project takes about 4 or 5 months and we'll
be showing you the progress as it comes together.

Louisiana
Redfishing
The last shoot we did was in February out of Slidell,
Louisiana. There we fished with a guide named Gary Taylor.
Gary has a pretty cool gig where he has a 32’
ft Louisiana Skiff, which is a true Louisiana Bayou
boat. On the back of the boat is a ramp-like trailer
built into the back of it where he winches up his smaller
Hell’s Bay skiff.
He runs across some really rough open waters of the
Gulf with his big boat and he launches his little skiff
when he gets to the remote sheltered waters of the fishing
areas. |

New
Spanish Fly Boat Under Construction
I am currently working with SeeVee boats to build the
new Spanish Fly. It is going to be a 34’, center
console with triple Mercury Verados. I have never been
a fan of the hype of triple engines boats, until I rode
in that same boat and was really impressed with the
performance, balance and speed of the whole rig.
I took it a step further to do the math on it and discovered
some interesting performance results. I found at slow
speeds, twin-engine boats are more fuel-efficient than
triples, but once you get past 32mph, the triple engines
are exactly the same fuel economy as doubles. And then
once you get past 40 mph, the triples are actually more
fuel-efficient than the doubles!
I am definitely not into the show of having triples,
but for what I do, it just makes sense. In my offshore
boating, I really like making long, dramatic offshore
runs to more remote places like the Crooked Island in
the Bahamas or Isla Mujeres in Mexico. For me, this
boat is clearly more functional with triples than doubles.
Not only for the functional and economical use, triple
engines provide an additional safety factor. If there
is a problem and you have to get home on two motors,
you can get home at 40 mph versus 10 or 12 mph on one
motor - and that’s important when you are 500
miles from home. Make sure to check back to see the progress of the
new Spanish Fly boat... |

Shimano’s
New Products
Shimano had their annual customer meetings in Key West
in May. I got to be a fly on the wall and attend some
of their meetings. I was able to check out their new products
for the upcoming year. Some of the stuff, no one knows
about or even has been announced yet, so it was really
cool. I took some video at the conference and will be
showing viewers some sneak peeks on our website of what’s
to come from Shimano. Stay tuned… |
